Try Something Different This Halloween
Halloween is fast approaching! If youre looking for an alternative to walking the neighborhood in the dark -- or if the weather doesnt cooperate this year -- consider the below ideas for alternative Halloween entertainment.
Trick-or-Treating Alternatives
Plan a party. Consider planning a trick or treat party with a couple of neighbors instead of house-to-house door knocking. Decorate the garages, have a costume contest, and plan games and prizes.
Consider events put on by the town. Check local schools, malls and churches to find other safe celebration options as well.
Halloween movie night. Put on a Halloween movie (nothing too scary, of course) and bring out the popcorn and candy.
Pumpkin carving. Pick up a few pumpkins and carving utensils at the store and invite the neighbors over to help carve them.
Remember, though, that you may still have trick-or-treaters come to your front door, so make sure your home is a safe place for them visit with the below tips.
Be Prepared at Home
Clean up.Put away anything trick-or-treaters could trip over, such as garden hoses, toys, bikes and lawn decorations. Clear wet leaves, snow or other debris from the sidewalk.
Turn the lights on. Replace any burned-out bulbs to ensure good visibility at the walkway and front door.
Control your pets. Take no chances that your pet might be frightened and chase or bite a child at your door.
Consider sugar substitutes. Instead of handing out sugar-laden treats, try stickers, fun pencils, rubber insects or colored chalk.
Once your trick-or-treaters have safely knocked on your door, nutritionists from The Little Clinic have a few ideas for healthier treats you can pass out.
