Top Tips for Safe Riding This Summer
Summer is a great time to get outdoors and spend time with friends and family. One of the most common summer pastimes is a bike ride, whether it is through the neighborhood, at a local park or trail, or even in a race. Some older kids may break out the ATVs and dirt bikes for an off-road adventure.
No matter the vehicle, every riders first concern should be safety. Below are 10 tips for safe riding this summer.
Inspect your bike/ATV and your safety equipment before you ride.
Always wear a helmet that fits properly and is certified to protect against head injuries.
Dress appropriately and use all recommended safety gear. Wear close toe shoes with soles that grip the pedals and avoid loose clothing that can get caught in the gears or wheels.
Obey traffic laws and use caution when riding on public streets, even on less-trafficked neighborhood roads.
Never ride while wearing headphones. An important part of riding safety is being able to hear whats around you.
Use bike lanes or sidewalks when available.
Never ride at dusk or in the dark without active lights on your vehicle
Never ride as a passenger on an ATV or bike that is not designed to carry more than one person. Never ride on the handlebars.
Ride only bikes or ATVs that are designed for someone your size and age. Kids should never be allowed to drive adult ATVs or dirt bikes.
Never stand up while riding a bike or driving an ATV.
